Preparation and Confidence are Key to Passing the Bucks Transfer Test!

11plus-thanks

We have been helping children prepare for the Buckinghamshire 11+ exam - now called the Bucks Transfer Test - for over ten years. Doing well in the Transfer Test requires above-average abilities in numeracy, literacy, verbal reasoning and, above all, confidence. Consequently, from experience, we know that success in the Transfer Test depends on early preparation.

At Maple, we establish solid knowledge foundations in maths and literacy from as young as Year 3. If your child is in Year 5, there is still time for us to help them tackle the daunting challenge of the Transfer Test - particularly through our regular 11+ (Transfer Test) Mock Exams sessions and our intensive 11+ (Transfer Test) Summer Course. But, if your child is in Year 4 we would also recommend that you consider starting their preparation for the Transfer Test with weekly lessons at Maple this year - this will help cement their foundation of knowledge in literacy, numeracy and non-verbal reasoning. To get a good sense of your child's current levels, and see how Maple can help them succeed at the Transfer Test, please contact us for a free, no-obligation, assessment.

About the Bucks Transfer Test (formerly the 11+)

In Buckinghamshire, there are two types of secondary schools – upper/all-ability schools and grammar schools. The Transfer Test decides which type of school will best meet your child’s needs. The exam requires above average achievements in numeracy, literacy, verbal reasoning and confidence.

How we can help

We can help your child to rise several levels in numeracy, literacy and confidence. Uniquely, we start preparing children for the Transfer Test in Year 3! If you enrol your children at Maple from Year 2 or 3, a good learning foundation will be established and built upon, year-by-year. By the time they are ready to take the exam in Year 6, they will be confident and familiar with the format. At best, they will get through; at worst the knowledge and thinking skills they will have attained at Maple will be excellent transitions to secondary school and ultimately, GCSEs. Many children are late bloomers, so good primary education is never wasted.

Options to consider:

Whatever option you are considering, begin by requesting a free assessment. This is a no nonsense, free review of your child's currents levels. We'll serve you tea and biscuits with a smile and let you snoop around our fine centre.

11+ Information Sessions

The Maple 11+ information sessions are open to parents of prospective 11+ students (Years 2 to Year 5). 11+ Weekly Tutorials

The best time to start preparing your child for the Transfer Test is...in Year 3! This may sound strange but the truth is that the new tests are based on years of good primary education and not on quick crash courses. At Maple we welcome this new trend for long-term education as the effects are much more beneficial to children - whether or not they get the grades to move on to grammar school. Our policy is to prepare ALL our primary pupils to THINK that they MIGHT one day write and pass this exam. The process involves deep learning in the basics - reading, writing, maths, focus and confidence. Our experience is that children do enjoy learning in the right environment and with the right teachers.

How Much Does it Cost?

One lesson @ 1.5 hours per week = £34.00 (Sibling rate = £31.00)

Two lessons @ 3 hours per week = £60.00 (Sibling rate = £47.00)

Please see our tutorial pricing page for more information.
